We endeavor to understand how spatial pattern in land use and ecosystem functioning influence the sustainability of human behavior from regional scales to the globe. Our work is highly interdisciplinary in that it seeks linkages between the drivers and impacts of climate, land-use, land-cover, and geomorphic change, thus directly informing land and resource management seeking solutions to environmental problems facing humanity. We apply an array of tools in our work, but have made the greatest impact on methods for analyzing satellite and airborne remote sensing data.
